Simangande Waterfall is a hidden gem located on Samosir Island, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Plunging down from a height of approximately 500 meters (1,640 feet), this waterfall originates from a natural spring in the Dolok Simangande Hills. The water flow becomes more dramatic during the rainy season, while the dry season sees a decrease in its volume.

Uniquely, the waterfall’s shape resembles a heart when viewed from a distance, earning it the nickname “Air Terjun Cinta” (Love Waterfall) among young people.
Location and Accessibility
Simangande Waterfall is situated in Garoga Village, Simanindo District, Samosir Regency, North Sumatra Province. It can be found between the villages of Ambarita and Tuktuk.
Reaching the waterfall requires a 1-hour walk. The journey begins with a ferry ride from Parapat Port to Tomok Port on Samosir Island. From there, you can take a motorbike taxi (ojek) to Garoga Village and continue the trek to the waterfall.

The area surrounding the waterfall is known for its abundance of natural stones. While enjoying the refreshing water from the 500-meter high waterfall, visitors can also capture breathtaking views of Lake Toba from a high vantage point and witness the mesmerizing sunset.
Getting There
To reach Simangande Waterfall from Tuktuk, follow these steps:
- Start your journey from Tuktuk Siadong, a popular tourist village on Lake Toba.
- From Tuktuk, you can take a motorbike taxi or walk to Garoga Village. The motorbike taxi fare from Tomok Port to Garoga Village is usually around Rp 15,000.
- Once you arrive in Garoga Village, continue the journey to the waterfall on foot. This trek typically takes about 1 hour.
