Cultural Aspects
In Pematang Purba Village there is a complex of traditional houses of the Simalungun community, better known as the Bolon house. In the complex area, you can find several houses, including Rumah Godang, Sopo Godang, and several kings’ tombs. The Bolon house complex has been well managed by both central and regional governments. Tourist visits are also increasing and are the tourist destination of choice for Simalungun Regency. In general, Simalungun traditional houses are the same as other traditional Batak houses, namely in the form of houses on stilts with wooden support pillars. As with traditional Batak houses in general, the entrance is also made small so that when you enter the house, you can bow as a form of respect. The roof is made of palm fiber and at the end there is a small buffalo symbol. There is one main house which is in a worrying condition because there are parts that are about to collapse and require attention for its preservation.
