Kuala Tanjung Port: A New Gateway to Indonesia
Location: Batubara Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia
Vision: To become the largest international hub port in Western Indonesia with a capacity of 60 million TEUs per year, surpassing Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta.
Strategic Role:
- Part of the Maritime Silk Road, connecting China with Europe.
- Increase the volume of goods flow and attract investment to the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (KEK).
- Reduce Indonesia’s dependence on ports in Singapore and Malaysia.
Development Stages:
- Phase 1 (2015-2017): Construction of a multipurpose terminal.
- Phase 2 (2016-2018): Development of a 3,000-hectare industrial zone.
- Phase 3 (2017-2019): Development of a container port and residential area.
- Phase 4 (2012-2023): Construction of an integrated industrial zone or port city.
Facilities:
- 500×60 meter multipurpose pier for large ships.
- 2.8 km long trestle with four 18.5 meter wide truck lanes.
- Integrated sophisticated IT system.
- Railway line connecting Kuala Tanjung Station to Bandar Tinggi.
- 3,000-hectare industrial area integrated with the port.
Access:
- Trans Sumatra toll road (under construction).
- Railway line connecting Kuala Tanjung Station to Bandar Tinggi.
- Seagoing vessels in the Malacca Strait (transshipment port).
Kuala Tanjung Port is a strategic infrastructure project that will boost connectivity, trade, and investment in Indonesia.
