Waterfront City Pangururan is an integrated area located in Pangururan District, Samosir Regency, North Sumatra. This 6.4-hectare area is situated on the shores of Lake Toba and has a length of approximately 1.5 kilometers.
The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) is currently developing the area to support the Lake Toba Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP). As of September 2023, the physical development has reached 75% and is expected to be completed before the Aquabike World Championship in November 2023.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to inaugurate the Waterfront City Pangururan and open the world-class jetski competition event.
A Gallery of Samosir’s Nature and Culture
Waterfront City Pangururan will become an open gallery showcasing the nature and culture of Samosir. The development scope includes the Taman Pustaha Zone, Tanjung Horbo Zone, Aek Na Tio Zone, Taman Rohani Zone, Samosir Gallery and World Totem Zone, and Pelataran Onan Baru Zone.
Getting There
To reach the Waterfront City Pangururan, you can use private vehicles or public transportation. If using a private vehicle from Medan City, you can take the Medan – Tebing Tinggi – Pematang Siantar – Parapat – Pangururan route. This trip takes about 5-6 hours.
If using public transportation, you can take a bus from Terminal Amplas Medan to Terminal Pangururan. From Terminal Pangururan, you can continue your journey by taking an ojek or taxi to the Waterfront City Pangururan.
Samosir Gallery and World Totem Zone
The Samosir Gallery and World Totem Zone is one of the five segments in the Waterfront City Pangururan that tells the story of Samosir’s nature and culture. This zone features totems from various indigenous cultural communities in Indonesia, such as Papua, Samosir, Dayak, as well as totems from indigenous communities around the world, such as the Ainu people of Japan and the Maori people of New Zealand.
Aquabike World Championship
The Aquabike World Championship is an international jet ski racing competition held annually by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM). The competition consists of several categories, including Runabout GP1, Ski GP1, and Freestyle. Participants will compete in high-speed races on the water using jet skis.
On November 22-26, 2023, Indonesia will host the Aquabike World Championship at Lake Toba, North Sumatra. This event will be attended by participants from all over the world and will be a very prestigious event.
