Arsik fish is one of the typical dishes of the Batak people which is famous for its unique and delicious taste. Arsik fish is made from carp cooked with yellow Batak spices. The seasoning used consists of several spices such as andaliman, cikala acid or tamarind, turmeric, kincung, chilies, shallots, and typical Batak onions.

3 rather large goldfish, in pieces
2 cm galangal, bruised
10 stalks of lemon grass, crushed
3 bay leaves
200 grams of chives
10 long long beans, cut into 5 cm
2 tsp salt
300 ml of water
For the ground spices, you will need:
12 grains of shallots
7 cloves of garlic
6 red chilies
10 hazelnuts that have been roasted
5 cm turmeric
3 cm ginger
How to Cook Arsik Fish
The following is how to cook Arsik Fish:
Clean the goldfish and the shells.
Mix the ground spices with galangal, long beans, chives, bay leaves, and lemon grass into the clean fish stomach.
Pour the water little by little into the pan and cook the fish over low-medium heat.
Cook until the fish is completely cooked. This is a sign that the water is shrinking and the seasoning has thickened.
Arsik fish is ready to be served and can be enjoyed with warm white rice
